No matter your views on the Monarchy and The Queen, we are all witnessing history and a huge seismic cultural shift. In her 96 years Queen Elizabeth saw so much change politically, socially and economically. She was a symbol and in her lifetime represented so many different things to different people good and bad. When it comes to empire and the huge social injustices so many of us have had to face we all need to heal, recognise the injustices, right so many wrongs, make peace with it, adapt and move forward together. I’m proud to be Nigerian, Trinidadian and British and the role of empire can’t be swept under the carpet but I do believe we all need healthy inclusive symbols, ritual, pomp, fanfare and things we can ALL see ourselves in. Hopefully moving forward we will see this more and more. The Queen whipping out her marmalade sandwich with Paddington Bear symbolises some things I love about this country- humour and irreverence. We are all stronger together. Whatever you views today is a day to pay respect to someone who made a promise at age 25 to do her duty and kept her word until she was 96. #rip #queen
