The Festive 500 is no easy undertaking, but sharing the road with family is sure to lighten the load. And for the past ten years, Richard Seipp and his son Tom have taken on the challenge, side by side. First completing the Festive 500 in 2013 when Tom was just seven, the Seipp father and son duo have since done it five more times. “Initially our motivation was the question. Is this possible in eight days? But since then, we’ve completed it in as little as three days. Doing it with someone else spurs you on. I’m convinced that if it hadn’t been for Tom’s enthusiasm during our first attempt, I wouldn’t have completed it.” In more recent years, they’ve gone the distance in as little as three days and taken the challenge on holiday to the roads of sunny Mallorca. At home or abroad, completed or not, the pair prioritise time on the bike together over simply clocking the kilometres. However, seeing the challenge through is always an achievement. “Each time our odometer has ticked past 500km we felt quite proud.” #Festive500
