One of the exhibitions I'm very much looking fwd to is opening next week - on Oct 18th @dianedal_pra’s new solo show Remaning Parts will be open at @galeriederouillon. Two years since her solo debut w the Parisian gallery, and following successful presentations at such major spaces as @spruthma or @massimodecarlo, the French artist is introducing a new body of "psychological assemblages (that) reveal multiple layers of our intimacy" • Looking back, it's amazing to see how much the work has evolved in these two years, while staying equally recognizable in its cryptic yet familiar, alerting yet soothing ambiance. "I tried to find a visual way to transcribe this idea of construction, of something we shape in order to show," #DianeDalPra told me 2 years ago when we spoke about the body of work that kicked off her career and still feels like the core of her practice. Interested in how we build our image of representation, she's been fragmenting and simplifying her sitters and scenes further and further. In an effort to further develop the idea, "it is not by what we see so much as by what is hidden," she is reducing them from draped and bound totem-like compositions to broken, focused frames of familiar sights. Sights that due to the fixed and intense framing often seemingly morph into abstract shapes or swerve into complete dreamworlds. • And in her current body of work, this fractionalization extends to the structure of the canvas, as the images get broken with a literal empty space between them (talking about hidden or unseen). This approach is transforming the mundane moments of solitary life into Mondrian compositions-like structures in which the primary colors are replaced with the delicate surfaces of household materials. The rugs, sheets, pillows, hair, and even cat fur are rhythmically arranged as sensual anchors (remaining parts), that together synthesize the sustained tone of a safe, yet lonely haven that is home. • All photos via Galerie Derouillon
