3 reasons to sleep on your side during pregnancy Featuring @sleepybellyau ✨ You’ve heard you have to sleep on your side during pregnancy, but have no idea why? Don’t worry I’ve got you covered. From 28 weeks of pregnancy it is important to sleep on your side to reduce your risk of stillbirth and to help you have a more comfortable and restful sleep - therefore improving the overall health of you and your baby!! 1. From 28 weeks of pregnancy the weight of your growing baby, uterus, placenta and amniotic fluid with gravity presses down on the main blood vessel in your body, called the Vena Cava. Lying on your back can reduce the blood flow and thus reduce the oxygen and nutrients that are transferred to your baby. Therefore, by sleeping on your side during pregnancy you are maximising blood flow, oxygen and nutrients to your baby and reducing your risk of stillbirth. 2. Can help improve pelvic girdle pain through using the Sleepybelly wedge under your bump and between your legs to take the strain off your hips and lower back. 3. It can help baby get into an optimal position for birth. The heaviest part of your baby is their back, so by lying in side lying positions gravity is encouraging your baby’s back to move to the front of your belly into what is called an anterior position. This is the most optimal position for labour and birth. It is important to sleep on your side for day rests/naps on the couch as well as for all night time sleeps. It does not matter if you sleep on the left or the right side. @sleepybellyau discount code ONEMAMA10 #sleep #sleeponyourside #sleepinpregnancy #sleeponyoursidewhenbabiesinside #midwife #midwifery #midwiferycare #birth #pregnant #pregnancy #pregnancyadvice #pregnancycare #pregnancyeducation #pregnancyannouncement #birth #birthannouncement #TTC #sleepbelly #onemamamidwife #mum #newmum #newparents #dad #baby #pregnancylife #pregnancystyle
