His death resulted in protests against the shooting as critics accused police of a lack of transparency & accountability. The total amount of body camera footage of the incident is around 2 hours. After being allowed to watch ONLY 20 seconds of body camera footage, a Brown family lawyer said that shots were first heard while Brown's car was sitting stationary, in his driveway, and that both of his hands were on the steering wheel. The District Attorney Andrew Womble disagreed, saying shots were heard only after Brown put the vehicle in motion, attempted to flee, and caused the car to "make contact" with the arresting officers (none of the deputies sustained injuries). A @nytimes review of bodycam footage showing the fatal police shooting of Andrew Brown Jr. in April raises questions about whether officers were in imminent danger when they used lethal force as he drove away to avoid arrest. The FBI announced on April 27, that it would be launching a civil rights probe into Brown's death.
