“I like to cook, and I love to bake Bread and cookiеs and pies and cake...” - Dolly Parton Bring out the rolling pins, the cookie cutters, the leveling knifes and be inspired by your national parks! Check out these park creations! First up, can you tell which is the @herberthoovernhs birthplace cottage and which is the gingerbread replica? The real cottage is pretty small and only slightly larger than the tastier model. Well, maybe several feet larger, but still tiny. Built in 1871 by Herbert Hoover’s father and grandfather, the original cottage is 14 X 20 feet, contains two rooms, and once housed a family of five Hoovers. The President, not the vacuum. The next one might intrigue our bear friends. St. Croix National Scenic Riverways made a splash with its sugary trout cookies. We’re hooked! Merry Fishmas! Next, how about something a bit more dry? Hard Tack, sometimes known as Hard Bread, or Army Bread, was a Civil War staple. Made by our bakers at @shilohnps from flour, water, and salt, it would last for months (or years) though it was not completely impervious to mold or weevils. TMI? So, umm, @lake.roosevelt.nps went a different direction as their unique creations were inspired by wildlife found in the park, their diet, and, uh, what they leave behind. Yep. They went there. Come back! Come back to us. We’re gonna need more sprinkles. Finally, sometimes things don’t go as planned. Nice ranger hat, @sleepingbearnps, or is it snails? Puffy clouds? A sleeping bear? Nailed it! Work with us. #cooking #baking #happyholidays #cookies #nationalparks #greatnpsbakeoff
