Video by @amivitale. Wildlife keeper Mary Lengees comforts a baby orphaned elephant in her care at the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary (@r.e.s.c.u.e). These babies arrive traumatized and filled with grief. Elephants are highly emotional creatures and like human babies, they cannot survive without love and care. Nurturing and caring for these orphans is a slow process and requires the love and devotion of their human nannies until they are fully recovered and able to be returned to the wild.
