Oh guess what? July is Fibroid Awareness Month. Fibroids are non-cancerous tumors that grow in or on the uterus. If you’ve been following along you’re probably know my fibroid journey BUT I keep sharing because: 👆🏿Each time I do, I get at least one DM from someone who was just diagnosed ✌🏿A menstruating person tells me they’ve never even heard of fibroids until I spoke about mine 🤟🏿 Someone realizes they should ask their doctor about their symptoms 🩸😩😴🚽😥 So how can you monitor yourself for symptoms of a very common condition if you don’t even know it exists? Exactly. Every person that menstruates should know about fibroids because they will affect up to 80% of us. It’s the number one reason for hysterectomies in the US. (Betcha didn’t know that!) And because we’re socialized to be ashamed to talk about menstruating and therefore not talk about this natural bodily process openly, we lose out on opportunities to learn about our *own bodies* from one another.
