@westminphoto Degree Show opens tonight and runs all weekend @trumanbrewery 23-26 💙 11-6pm Come and see an exclusive preview of my film in virtual reality ‘Self Dialogues: Hard Food’ along with photographic works. Hard Food is both a photographic artwork and immersive, virtual video installation. It excavates and focuses on my personal journey after migrating to England over the past five years. The project explores personal reflections, memories and fluctuations. Diverging from the term’s typical definition in Caribbean society as ‘any starchy agricultural product used as food’, the title hard food takes on a more metaphorical function. It signifies thoughts or realisations that are hard to swallow or confront. The work operates as a self-confessional and diaristic work. Using self-dialogue, the project unravels different stems and sentiments of solitude— including loneliness, anxiety, detachment, darkness, limbo, and oneness. The film’s immersive experience imitates sitting in the brain— where the viewer can sit and observe one’s thoughts, memories and feelings that pass, while the photographic works explore these fluctuations of positive and negative feelings through movement.
