We stayed up after the premiere until 2 ...and looked up at the stars in the sky trying to make sense of how the planets had aligned, marveling at the almost full moon. Curious, insistent. “That’s Venus and that’s Jupiter,” I declared. “Put your feet on the grass.” ...we were trying to stay grounded, lest we lift off and take flight. What a magical night. They call it Black girl magic. But I think it’s the magic of hard work, coalition building, our insistence for excellence. I quietly wished on a star. That every Black girl finds her particular brand of magic and shares it with the world. Thank you Wonya and Toni, Terri, Monique and Korin, and all the women who lovingly set the table in American television, waiting for Black women to arrive. I’m so proud to work with you.
