With its beautifully speckled plumage and contrasting black beak and yellow legs, the Short-billed Dowitcher (Limnodromus griseus) is a fairly common site here on the Reserve. Unfortunately, global populations are on the decline, likely because of wetland habitat loss along the pacific coast -- an important migratory corridor not only for Dowtichers, but for countless other migratory bird species.
