A year ago today, my grandfather, CJ Adkins, went to be with Jesus. Within the following week, I knew I wanted to release a small project to honor his homegoing. In the 12 months since he passed, I got engaged and married. The Lighthouse Music team and I have been deep in records, projects, writing, and events. (With every life change and new opportunity, I still find myself wishing I could call and give him an update.) Despite the busyness, we still managed to put together a project that I couldn’t be more proud of. Most of the instrumental tracking was done by @andrewbelmore and I with vocal help from @canonadkins @carter.macall and @_alaynacole. The project includes 1) a new take on My Jesus Lives, 2) Call On Me (an original written by CJ and finished by @_meaganadkins and I) and 3) our spin on a hymn called Whate’er My God Ordains Is Right. And, to top it all off the intro features a little three part arrangement of To God Be the Glory from Canon, Carter and myself and a clip of CJ preaching but with our own little vintage twist. Nothing is Instagram Reel or TikTok trendy about this record. It’s just our simple approach to honor the legacy of a man whose own life preached his funeral better than any of us could have. - Q
