For most of the U.S., it has been a very hot summer. While we’ve had excellent weather for some summer activities, there has also been a sharp increase in heat-related illnesses. What is it about hot weather that is so dangerous? When ambient temperature, physical activity or a combination of the two causes us to overheat, our bodies automatically attempt to cool down — which is why our skin might flush, or we might start sweating. However, when temperatures get too high, these natural processes can't cool us effectively. This is when the risk of heat-related illnesses, hospitalizations and, tragically, deaths, rise. Learn more about staying safe from the heat by clicking the link in our bio.
