And during that time, we’ve watched childhood in our country slowly unravel due to rising rates of mental illness, preventable injuries, food insecurity, discrimination, and so much more. Behind every statistic is a child filled with hopes and fears, a voice waiting to be heard, and a future brimming with promise. We owe it to them to do better. As Children First Canada turns 10 this year, I’m thinking about all the kids and youth we’ve met along the way; kids who’ve grown up speaking truth to power, demanding change, asking not to be seen as problems, but as partners. And they’re right. That’s why I'm making space for youth like Josephine Maharaj to testify too. She is a member of CFC's Youth Advisory Council and the Young Canadians' Parliament, and she embodies the courage and clarity of her generation. And I truly believe that if Canada listens to children like Josephine, we can build something extraordinary. This week’s federal budget committed billions to physical infrastructure. But the greatest infrastructure we can invest in is the human kind: our children. They are the foundation upon which our future rests.
