We try to be as responsible as possible in the materials we choose to make our clothing. It seems inconsequential, but the majority of buttons out there are made from plastic, a non biodegradable material, derived from the fossil fuel industry. In searching for more responsible materials, we found corozo. Corozo buttons are plant-based and derived from the seed or nut of the tagua palm tree in Central America. They are often called “vegetable ivory” since they are extrmely hard and durable and mimic the appearance of animal ivory with their beautiful texture and natural looking finish. Purchasing corozo based products helps prevent deforestation by protecting and regenerating forests where corozo nuts grow wild, while also supporting the indigenous communities that gather these nuts.
Corozo nut buttons are shown here on our Oversized Shirt and as you scroll through a polished corozo nut alongside our buttons.
