I believed for a very long time that lift came from the developer strength you chose. That’s how I was taught so I did what I was told. A few years ago a lot of stylists on here started preaching low and slow for bleaching. I immediately went into “yeah, but not for Balayage” I was a major 40 volume user for lift. That’s how I was taught and it worked so why question it 🤷🏼‍♀️ I opted to stop being a “know it all one day” and try 20 volume with my Balayage. Know what happened? I actually got cleaner and better lift with 20 volume than 40. 🤯 I know! I’ve been hooked ever since! For me, when I have someone who is really dark, coarse and/or resistant instead of reaching for 40 volume instead I add more regular lightener into my formula for more power. Gabriella is a natural level 3 and she lifted beautifully with equal parts of @wellahairusa 25g Blondorplex 25g Freelights 50g 20 volume I followed with a Melt for Grey Blending.
