What a dream. Three weeks ago we launched our film, The Territory, into the world at @sundanceorg, where it won two awards (I mean, holy shit). In a few more weeks we will show the film at @truefalsefilmfest for our first in-person screenings. True/False is generously raising funds to support the Uru-eu-wau-wau, and we will finally be able to watch it in a theatre (!!). So grateful to @natgeodocs who picked up the film and will be making it available all over the world. This film is the result of three years of shooting, decades of thinking about participatory filmmaking, a lifetime of activism from the film's protagonists, and generations of resistance from the Uru-eu-wau-wau. It has been an unimaginable privilege to play a small part in supporting their efforts. For security reasons I hadn't posted anything about this project while we were in production, but now that it's out I can shout it from the rooftops! Please, if you get a chance, come find it at one of the many screenings coming up and follow our Indigenous teammates to understand more about what's happening on the ground in the Amazon. It should not be ignored. Innumerable thanks to my dear friends and collaborators @bitate_uru_eu_juma And @neidinha_surui for bringing such heart and soul into this film and for trusting me even when nothing was clear. Without you, there would be nowhere to point the camera, and no message to carry. This is nothing without you. I also extend gratitude to Sergio and Martins, who let me into their lives and gave us all an honest look at the forces driving this conflict. We have huge goals with this film. An impact campaign led by those living in the territory, but with far reaching and global effects. At every stage in this process, we asked ourselves: what are the priorities of those on the front lines, and how can we support them through this film? Our impact efforts will carry the same ethos that guided us through production and into the public sphere.
