Take some time to read this and educate yourself (watch the video too!) Here are some pictures of the OEM repair procedures for changing a quarter panel on a 2017 BMW 3-Series. (Not every step is shown here)There is NO welding whatsoever. It’s done using only Self Piercing Rivets and BMW Adhesives. This has been BMWs recommended procedure to replace Aluminum parts for over a decade, however recently the procedure has carried over to steel vehicles. The reasons? Heat-sensitive steel. With rivet bonding, there is no heat generated by welding that could weaken the steel, allowing the steel to retain its strength. Another reason is increased corrosion resistance of the repair joints. BMW offers a 12-year corrosion warranty, use of this repair procedure protects this warranty from become void. If a Shop welds a quarter panel on this car, it will void the corrosion warranty.
