I started doing these affirmations with my daughter when she was 1 year-old. Now that she’s 3 years old, these affirmations have become hers too! She uses them to self-regulate - a practice that will serve her for a lifetime. But mostly, these words give her what she needs the most ✨connection✨ first thing in the morning. Here’s how self-affirmation work: Self affirmation increases neural pathways in the ventromedial prefrontal cortex—an area of our brain 🧠 involved in positive valuation and self-related information processing (Falk et al., 2015; Cascio et al., 2016). The results of a study show us that when we choose to practice positive affirmations, we’re better able to view “otherwise-threatening information as more self-relevant and valuable.” ✨Self-affirmations have been shown to decrease health-deteriorating stress (Sherman et al., 2009; Critcher & Dunning, 2015); ✨ Self-affirmations positively affect academic achievement by mitigating GPA (Layous et al., 2017); ✨Self-affirmation has been demonstrated to lower stress and rumination (Koole et al., 1999; Wiesenfeld et al., 2001). This is our reminder that our kids don’t need fancy toys, grand vacations and a perfect parent. They need to know that we are more than just routine police 🚨and to-do lists 📝. We are here to create a deep and meaningful ✨connection✨ with them. Give us a ❤️ if you agree!
