Someone recently asked me if I’ve done a Tiny Desk Concert, and sometimes I forget that I was actually the fourth artist to perform at one. It was early 2008, and I was on tour with my incredible band, still learning how to navigate the touring experience. When we got to the East Coast, I got really sick. I lost my voice, which forced us to cancel World Cafe (ugh) and another show. I managed to get my voice back just the morning I was heading to NPR. I had no idea what to expect, and I felt so lethargic from being sick. Stephen Thompson @idislikestephen had named my debut as one of his top ten picks of the year and invited me to perform. It’s amazing what they have built. What an honor to be among so many talented artists. I’m forever grateful to Stephen and Bob for having me play for the beautiful people of NPR.
