“When I first started at Farm Sanctuary, my new friendships that came as a surprise to me were my friendships with all of my favorite duck friends. Prior to Farm Sanctuary, I never had the opportunity to spend much one-on-one time with ducks — but wow, was I missing out! My love for ducks first started when I met Ditto, the very best man who lived a great life into his golden years. I would go into the duck barn, give Ditto his arthritis medications, and for a minute or two, he would snuggle in my arms, starting my day off with a little hug. Since Ditto [passed], I still go in every day and say hello to my favorite friends: Dally, Turtle, Mary Mae, Terry — Ditto’s partner — and so many more. A few months ago, Sunny came into our lives with a leg injury that we stepped in and helped fix. The first day, Sunny nuzzled under my chin and took a nap, finally knowing they were safe, and I haven’t been the same since. Sunny and I spend a quiet moment together every morning — I sneak in all of their favorite snacks — and some quality water time in the afternoons.
