Today is National Child Day, and instead of celebrating, I’m sounding the alarm🚨 Right now in Canada, children are being bullied, extorted, groomed, manipulated, and exploited online. Every. Single. Day. 📅 I have met the parents who have buried their children because of preventable online harms. I’ve stood alongside kids who are pleading with our government to do the right thing and put safeguards in place. And I’ve seen firsthand the toll this crisis is taking on families across our country. We cannot begin another year like this. We cannot lose one more child. Together, we are launching the Countdown for Kids: a 40-day national campaign calling on the Government of Canada to reintroduce the Online Harms Act before December 31 and to rename it the Online Safety Act to emphasize its core purpose - protecting children online. This is not about politics. This is about protection. This is about the lives of Canada’s 8 million children. Kids deserve to be safe online, just as they have the right to be safe in their homes, schools, and communities. Parents cannot carry this burden alone.
