Miso garlic butter noodles with seared lobster tails. [ad] Pan fried noodles coated in a garlic-infused miso butter made with @danishcreamery European Style Butter, subtly-sweet and mellow white miso, and a whole head’s worth of chopped garlic; topped with succulent lobster tails slathered in extra miso garlic butter; garnished with Thai basil and tobiko.
This dish combines two fusion dishes, Vietnamese-American garlic noodles and Japanese-American miso butter pasta, into one easy but extra flavorful platter of noodles. Garlic noodles were invented right here in San Francisco by a Vietnamese immigrant chef and they were the first new-to-me thing I ate when I moved to the city. Back then, I embarrassingly lacked enthusiasm for foods of the Asian diaspora; I was still very caught up in getting to eat all the Western foods I longed for in my childhood. Garlic noodles were truly the catalyst to my excitement and appreciation for Asian-American cuisine—a culinary space I am now very proud to take part in.
What I love about this recipe is that it is quick to make and so delicious without needing many ingredients. Butter is the foundation of this simple yet indulgent dish, so use a good one! I used @danishcreamery European Style Unsalted Butter, which is slow-churned in small batches for a velvety texture and rich flavor. They use fresh cream from cows that graze on family farms and the texture felt so dreamy and creamy as I swirled it together with the miso paste.
Adding the lobster tails was inspired by a dish I saw at a night market. They are optional because it’s the noodles that are the star here, but their natural sweetness went so well with the miso butter and it was fun to combine a more luxurious protein with these humble noodles. This is the perfect recipe for when you want to whip up something that is both cozy and decadent at the same time, for the people most dear to you—i.e., the people who’ll appreciate your company even if you all have garlic breath!
