Big Day Out gallery 5 of 5 - @russellruckus to check the others And that's it, I’ve scraped the barrel of what I deem as publishable shots from the tail end of #bigdayout’s I got to shoot. I jumped back into the archive more out of curiosity, then thought I might post a few (possibly got too carried away and a tighter edit would have been better). But it was quite a journey thinking through some eye opening moments I had as a 14 year old right through to attending the same festival in a professional capacity, employed by @triple_j who had a lot to do with also shaping my view on the world. Some real fucking pinch yourself moments. The transition from kid in the mosh pit somewhere in some of that footage that ended up in RATM’s Bull’s on Parade clip, to being backstage watching them roll in and walk the ramp to the main stage a decade or so later. To being in the security pit with camera in hand feeling the ground literally shake as the mass of bodies on the other side of the barrier moved in anticipation of their appearance. It is kinda mind blowing. A lot of what was shot in that early part of my career was not technically great. But the genuine enthusiasm and energy I put in for it all comes through with a few lucky moments where the lighting was kind and the energy was right there to encapsulate those moments. This was all obviously triggered by the wealth of quality content @doublejradio is churning through this month, a much better scratch to the nostalgic itch than the tip of the iceberg galleries I could muster.
