A glow-in-the-dark scorpion. That is all. Just kidding. That is not all. If you thought you’d see a picture of a fluorescent scorpion on my IG and not learn WHY scorpions glow 👏 in 👏 the 👏 dark👏, then you don’t know my true (mrs frizzle) essence. Teaching moments are what I live for! Why do scorpions glow in the dark? Turns out we’re still not entirely sure. But here are some hypotheses: 1) to detect bright moonlight, and therefore whether they’re too noticeable to predators to be out hunting (their exoskeleton serves as an “eye” this way); 2) to find mates; 3) to distract their prey; 4) it protects them from parasites; 5) it acts as a sunscreen. Whatever the reason it’s insanely cool. What’s also cool are friends like @eelpicnic who keep a UV flashlight handy on the off chance you run into glow up critters in the wild
