There have been many ways that it has been described, so that it is understood as an isolated, rogue incident rather than what we know it to be, a direct outcome of inherently systemic, violent racist oppression. While a mass campaign to raise awareness of racism mobilised around the globe, we must still carry on the struggle for substantive reform addressing structural inequalities and racism. It keeps you explaining, over and over again, your reason for being." - Toni Morrison We will not be gaslit into believing these things only happen to people "over there", or only in rare or extreme circumstances, or that racism is uncommon. It's local, it's global, it's structural, it's endemic. We, again, denounce the Sewell Commission report. Black and minoritised women in the ending VAWG sector have struggled for many decades for the recognition of racism in our sector and for transformative change addressing this oppression. About a year ago the VAWG sector came together to support the Anti Racism Charter for the ending Violence Against Women and Girls’ Sector. We encourage the sector to back the Charter that Black and minoritised women in the UK back.
