The question was asked if there is always snow at Grand Canyon on New Year's Day. Looking back the past few years, the answer is mostly yes. The first exception is 2018. In the 2018 photo, from Hopi Point, the wispy smoke that is visible was from a prescribed burn. 2016 looks mighty dry, however in 2015, the snow made it all the way down to Phantom Ranch! What about today's forecast (January 8, 2023?) @nwsflagstaff tells us that the next winter storm system is forecast to cross northern Arizona Tuesday evening through around sunrise Wednesday. Generally light amounts of snow are expected. There is a potential for slick and hazardous travel, especially on Wednesday morning, January 11, 2023.
