On this New Moon, @richardcabralofficial and I felt compelled to share the following message of our hope in each other and our hope in the future of LA. “Today, Tuesday, October 25th would not only have been my nana Daria’s 107th birthday, but also a day when the solar eclipse in Scorpio occurs. A time when the light of the Sun dims so we could break the veil of separation between us and the spirit world. A time of letting go and preparing for change. A time of a New Moon when the cosmos is asking us to collaborate with our highest selves and those who are aligned with our deepest aspirations and dreams. As a company, @tepitocoffee is committed to uplifting all of us, especially those of us who are often marginalized, caged, and forgotten. We see the beauty and gifts among those of us who society too often throws away and we honor all of our multiple identities and communities. It is in this backdrop that we are releasing a conversation that Richard and I had with Congresswoman Karen Bass. A black woman who has dedicated her life to the liberation of Black and Brown people. A person of integrity and someone who I have personally known for more than two decades – a warrior, an organizer, a mother, and a person deeply committed to transforming society. As someone who has spent his life working to better society, and as a co-founder of someone who has never voted before, we always strived to create spaces for authentic and real conversations to take place. Spaces where we could share the most vulnerable aspects of what makes us flawed and beautiful at the same time. Spaces where we both came to the same conclusion: we must use our platform to educate and inspire people to vote for Karen Bass. This is not about identity politics. This is not about us vs. them. This is about us and our values. This is about honoring people who have stood with us when the cameras were not on. This is about supporting a black woman who knows the challenges ahead, but also knows that the only way to solve any of our most pressing challenges is to do it together. Scorpio season is here.
