New works investigating microbial and machine intelligence. To create these pieces, I worked in dialogue with several machine learning algorithms, mixing biomorphic and microbial imagery, while deconstructing and manipulating images of past artworks to prompt and guide the different algorithms’ output. Each ML algorithm functions as a layer of “paint” and generates unique imagery, from brush strokes and washes of color, to blood cells and fish eggs, scratched and ruptured skin, clumps of algae, polyps and crustaceans, and the undulations of a deep ocean floor. The first of this series was shown in The Painter’s New Tools at Nahmad Contemporary. These two new compositions will be on view this fall at Frieze Seoul with Gladstone Gallery. More to come soon!
