Come discover “Louis Vuitton and Nike ‘Air Force 1’ by Virgil Abloh,” a special interactive exhibition rooted in the spirit of collaboration, held at Greenpoint Terminal Warehouse at 73 West St., Brooklyn until May 31st, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. daily. (You may have seen art installations around Manhattan/Brooklyn hinting to it!✨)
Through the lens of creativity, both Louis Vuitton and Nike are celebrated as cultivating and inspiring forces for youth culture, which were fundamental principles to Virgil Abloh. As a high-fashion designer born out of a streetwear community shaped by hip-hop, Abloh erased the borders between the two spheres and used his platform to celebrate the historical influence of Black subcultures on mainstream fashion. His work was, above all, about humanity and unity.
The immersive exhibition offers an in-depth view of the sneakers through the designer’s own inimitable lens. For example, drawing on the surrealist ideas central to Abloh’s practice, the 47 editions of the Louis Vuitton and Nike “Air Force 1” dialogue are exhibited in motion on magnetized walls and in animated holographic displays with cues to breakdancing, while a treehouse pays tribute to his affinity for the childlike mind.
