Today, I took my lunch break in the fields. The rice is just a few weeks old and starting to stand up through deep water, which we use to drown weeds instead of dousing our fields with chemical herbicides. The sound of birdsong calmed my nervous system. I also spotted some egrets, mallards, and a bittern that stood stock-still while I ate my lunch. Can you see it by the cattails? When I got back to my desk, I learned today is World Environment Day. 💛
