This is what packing for a gig looks like for me as a vinyl dj. I spent three hours packing for a four hour set. Once I’ve picked my records I organize them in my bag by BPM. I start with LPs and comps then slowest to fastest. I don’t plan my sets. Everything’s improvised. When I get to a space I take note of the room and decide where to go from there. I think there’s an art to building a room. Having the courage to stand with your music while people build up the legs to join the dance floor. I think about how you can you use your selection to give life to the room while people ease in. What tracks are going to get them moving and build your dance floor? I miss the days of getting lost with a dj and surrendering to their journey. Maybe our collective attention span has shortened but I believe the dance floor deserves more and wants more. Can we all just agree, fewer DJs longer set times. 💋 The Frizz Track by @hplindstrom 😮‍💨
