2021-2022. A challenging commissioned painting that endured an interesting span of time for me. Pushed me to invent buried neon to honour a personal narrative. I wanted to create dimension within the neon, everything, not just the painting. It’s sculptural somehow. Additionally, there’s a bottle of wine of significance from 1949 that’s strapped to the painting, surrendered. We are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars - Oscar Wilde said that in passing.
