Sungazing at X100 - by @studio.labour at @berlinatonal @colinhacklander @hatam.farahnaz @evelyn_bencicova @zeydepth_2.0 @mfo.light.space 🔥 Drawing inspiration from ancient Zoroastrian rituals involving sun and fire, this new work of @studio.labour begins where 2021’s ‘hit of enlightenment’ left off, and opens up an experience of acoustic space with a large mixed ensemble of strings, percussion, voice, drumsets, and electronics. Working with such Xenakian techniques as stochastic distribution and sieves theory, the artists regard sungazing as a metaphor for an experimental lifestyle practice that prioritizes the potential of an empirically derived emancipatory practice over the potential dangers of indulgence and mispractice.
