It’s no secret that the medical field is a challenging place to work nowadays. Many physicians do not like working for large medical groups anymore because they’re required to see patients very quickly and administrators have control over their salaries (I’ll post more about this later). For these reasons, and others, physicians are leaving large groups and returning to independent private practice. One type of independent practice is called direct primary care (DPC). It’s a simple model where patients pay their physician an affordable monthly fee for medical services. Small patient panels make it manageable. Not taking insurance reduces administrative time. Doing something to make our healthcare system better brings fulfillment.
