And within a blink of an eye, the season changes. The ground crunches beneath our feet and the bright greens of summer veg are replaced with the autumn times of red and orange.
The garden and polytunnel always feels calm and tranquil at this time of year. After a busy summer with flurries of visitors and constant pruning and harvesting, the plants settle.
There's still remnants of the previous season; green tomatoes waiting to ripen and dahlias the size of dinner plates still standing tall. But the September stars such as chillies and sweetcorn are taking pride of place, alongside what has to be our favourite autumn veg, squash, of every size, shape and colour imaginable.
What's taking pride of place in your garden space this month?
