One very elegant night in Rome to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Brioni. I took the train from Milan after this week’s men’s market to join in the very special festivities. Held in the Chiostra del Bramante, a cloister turned art exhibition space, a hefty crew of notables decked out in black tie sipped negronis, viewed important ephemera, and had the chance to see up close some iconic, historic Brioni tailoring. To see the actual white jacket that Marcello Mastroianni wore in La Dolce Vita was extraordinary, along with tuxes worn by two James Bonds, a jacket made from actual gold, jacquarded fabric woven over three months on 19th century looms, and a number of important archival pieces along with the ornate, more contemporary work by the brand’s designer Norbert Stumpfl, a tailoring wizard. What an unforgettable night. Grazie mille Brioni e buon anniversario.
