#Throwback to when Spurlino first arrived at Farm Sanctuary! We rescued him from a neglected property where the animals on-site lacked proper food, shelter, and enrichment. Having the opportunity to simply play was likely something he'd never experienced. For Spurlino and other farm animals, play is an important indication of their curiosity and ability to innovate; it also helps them learn many of the social skills necessary for successful interactions with one another. Unfortunately, animal agriculture often limits (or prevents) cows from learning the ways of the herd. In fact, people are often surprised with how playful cows can be because they've only seen them in situations that prevent them from carrying out natural behaviors.
