Students of our Building Craft Programme recently completed a two-month-long industry placement and will return to @DumfriesHouse estate after the Christmas holidays.
Back in August, our aspiring heritage craft experts spent two weeks designing their Live Build construction alongside programme alumna Kirsty Cassels as well as senior staff from The Prince’s Foundation including Kim Hitch and Sarah Robinson.
Their brief was to design and build a bird hide to be located in the Maguire Arboretum on Dumfries House estate (pictured), adjacent to The Bluebell Wood.
The students have worked with Dumfries House head of gardens Melissa Simpson and The Prince’s Foundation’s head of STEM education Jo Dempster, allowing them to undertake a more comprehensive, multi-faceted design that incorporates the ideas and needs of a range of users.
Applications for the Building Craft Programme 2023-24 will open later this year. If you would like to receive updates about the application process, please email Michael Goodger at [email protected] to be added to a mailing list.
