I lost the love of my life last week. At 64yrs young, she was the most selfless woman I’ve ever known. Her only goal in life was to provide her boys with a better opportunity than she ever had, and although it was never easy as a single mother, I made sure to remind her every chance I got that she had absolutely accomplished that goal.
Strength and determination would be an understatement for Sandra and she somehow instilled so many of her amazing characteristics in me, but if you knew her later in her life, she really became the sweetest angel this world has ever seen. Always there waiting for a big hug and an extra squeeze, always ready for our date nights, and always texting me she missed me before I even got back to the airport.
Six months ago we were chatting on the porch after dinner, and a week later we found out she had terminal cancer and wouldn’t walk or even be able to come home again. These last several months she has been surrounded by the best comfort care in the world, therapy puppies, prayer, music therapy, family, and all the love possible.
Im so grateful for all the quality time we’ve had together, and I feel an overwhelming sense of happiness for her that she is finally at peace and free to continue her journey. But at the same time, I have been deeply mourning the loss of her presence and just the most pure and unconditional love that I may ever feel.
Hug the ones you love, tell them often how you feel, and make them get checked regularly - especially the stubborn ones. 🩷🦩
