On December 12, 2024, @aai_nyc partnered with students and families from P.S. 48 Mapleton School for artist @javiercastroart’s workshop, Transcendent Writing: Words of (re)affirmation. Together, we explored the history of clay—not just as a vessel for making, but as a surface for storytelling and connection. Inspired by the earliest writing mediums, participants shaped individual clay tablets, engraving words and phrases of (re)affirmation into their surfaces. Before the evening ended, everyone contributed to a large-scale ceramic communal tablet, a lasting testament to the collective creativity and shared reflections of the P.S. 48 community.
