On a softly drizzling San Francisco afternoon, the trees of Stern Grove reverberated with the sound of Too Short’s favorite word (which shall not be repeated here 😉) Appearing as part of a rescheduled double bill alongside Oakland funk legends Tower of Power on Sunday, June 12, the 56-year-old rapper’s performance provided compelling reason to ignore the rain, get on your feet and “blow the whistle.” 🎶🤩🙌 Originally intended to serve as the grand finale to last year’s Stern Grove Festival season, the event was postponed in the wake of a water pipe break that caused massive flooding in the park. In his brief opening remarks, festival Executive Director Bob Fielder acknowledged the challenges organizers faced in preparing to kick off the 85th edition of their free summer concert series. “We’ve been trying to get Tower of Power here for years,” he said. “It was supposed to happen in 2020. First it was COVID, then the flood. But now it’s finally going to happen.” Read more about the festival’s return at the link in bio (✍️: @zackruskin / 📷: Laura Morton ~ Special to The Chronicle ~ June 12, 2022)
