A DECADE OF DYLAN! Ten years ago, the day after I graduated high school, I decided to leave [deadname redacted] behind and change my name to Dylan. It was one of the scariest and most wonderful decisions I’ve ever made for myself. 17 year old me didn’t have words like trans or nonbinary, I just knew I wasn’t a girl and so I wanted a less girly name. The wonderful @adventuraa made me a list of gender neutral names, and I picked Dylan off of that list. I didn’t have any particular connection to it, I just liked it. I am so endlessly proud of myself for knowing that was something I needed to do. I asked some close friends to call me Dylan so that I could try it out, and the name stuck. I will forever be grateful for the group of people who used my name for that first week and have supported me every single day since. Over the past ten years, I have grown into Dylan in the most beautiful and wonderful ways. It’s kind of strange to change one’s name and then have to grow into it, but I think that’s exactly what I’ve done. Every choice I’ve made for myself & my gender in the past 10 years has brought me more and more connected to myself, to Dylan.
