💙IT’S HERE!!!!!! Relatives, I am so honored, humbled (and terrified) to REVEAL MY BOOK COVER! My forthcoming book, Project 562: Changing The Way We See Native America, IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER and will be out on shelves on April 25, 2023. Can you believe it?
The book is a photographic and narrative celebration of contemporary Native American life and cultures, alongside an in-depth examination of issues that Native people face— there are 416 pages of photos paired with personal narratives, and longer exposes on a wide range of Indigenous topics.
Writing this book has been such fulfilling, community-rooted work. I’ve collaborated with folks to ensure that their profile is a truthful and authentic reflection of them. I’m really proud of the way it’s shaping up and I can’t wait to share it with you.
The truth is, I think back on the 562 sojourn and I remember how this project has driven me to travel hundreds of thousands of miles. I slept on so many couches, ate at countless community dinners, and relied on the kindness of strangers. I remember all the amazing Native folks that shared their truths, their stories, and their kinship. I was welcomed, nourished and enlightened by hundreds of Native people across Turtle Island, and this book lives because Indian Country believes that Native people deserve positive representation. Because our children deserve to see themselves in all their complexities. So this is my humble offering of that spirit. A photo book that is dedicated to the Native America that is now. To offer hope to Rez girls like me. To portray the richness, beauty and intelligence of Native peoples. I hope you love it like I do.
Please consider pre-ordering (link in bio), it really makes a HUGE difference in a books life if there are pre-orders. Special signed copies are available through Elliot Bay Booms. Or simply re-sharing this post would be really, really helpful.
T’igwicid, thank you so much for being on this journey with me.
