Shortly after arriving in Baja California Sur, I lifted my camera to the horizon and a family of bottlenose dolphins suddenly burst into view. Mexico is home to many species of dolphin and porpoise, including the Vaquita— the smallest porpoise in the world. With as few as 8 vaquitas left in the wild, these mythical little cetaceans are one of the most endangered species on Earth. Back when I was studying marine biology in the Gulf of California over 30 years ago, my peers and I spent almost every day out on the water. In all that time and in all the years since, I have never seen a living vaquita; only one drowned in a fishing net. After decades of failed conservation efforts, an extraordinary team of conservationists are finally close to protecting the future of this rare species. And they need our help. Click the link in my bio to help us turn the tide for the vaquita. There’s still hope! @icfcanada #SaveTheVaquita
