Big thank you to @freedomfoilboards for bringing me on a killer trip to Hood River, Oregon 🇺🇸 @finchkauai @robcarnn @brady__hurley @bu_foil @jason_miller Connecting faces and spirit to names was a real treat. The group dynamic was palpable...pure FROTH ensured til the sunset each day. Introduced to foiling four years ago now going deeper, becoming aquatinted with more of the humanness behind social media handles that have coloured the imagination along the way. There is a refreshing openness out there in the foil world brought on by its very nature, with a seemingly limitless wide open field of power source to tap into. Swell crests being the ticket to ride we discover this power ranging from lakes, rivers, into oceans. No longer limited to huddling against each other around sandbars, points or reefs where strips of vertical wave face dictates the ride - don’t get me wrong I still absolutely love and enjoy surfing on many and varied traditional surfboards regularly. Stories I hear of long term surfers trajectory into foiling are rife with total obsession with many completely dropping the traditional surfboard as an option. I totally get obsessive behaviour👍🏼😂how do we learn new information and improve without it!!? For me it’s been a complex mix as the body wrestles with this new information but I feel it settling into the system. Now finding Foil and traditional Surfing do eventually inform and compliment each other given the chance.
