One of my favorite San Francisco day trips is to Muir Woods, just north of The City over the Golden Gate Bridge. The epic redwoods are beautiful, and some of the trees are almost 1,000 years old. There are trails for all types of hikers, everything from pleasant flat strolls to more strenuous climbs. If you plan to visit, book your parking permit a few days in advance (weekends especially). Best time to visit is a weekday when the park opens. 🌲
