From growing up drawing alongside her father—a talented artist and New York Times contributor as well—illustrator Joana Avillez has been creating art for as long as she can remember. In fact, she still channels her childhood self as part of her artistic process. “When I'm drawing and coming up with ideas, I really tap into my nine-year-old self. She is my guide.
