Slash’s guitar tech found this black 1966/67 Gibson EDS-1275 in a small music store in Indiana in 1990. According to Gibson’s special orders ledger, it started life with a sunburst finish, leaving the factory on January 11th 1967. “It was worn when I got it, but it’s even more worn now,” says Slash. “It’s one of the only black ones I’ve seen. I didn’t want to have a cherry one because Jimmy Page was famous for that, and it would look like I was duplicating his vibe. “It sounds beautiful. You can do so many things on either neck. But the big attraction was that I needed something like a doubleneck because I was doing Knocking On Heaven’s Door. It had solos, but it also had this chordal picking thing going on in the verses.” To see more of this, and hundreds of Slash’s other guitars in breathtaking detail, order your Custom Edition copy of The Collection: Slash, a premium coffee table book from Gibson Publishing.
