In 2022, the message remains the same - we still believe it's a woman's right to choose.
We’ve been trying to stay optimistic this week after the US Supreme Court overruling of Roe v Wade reverberated around the globe. Tune into this week's #VivaTalks podcast on all good podcast platforms including iHeart Radio, Apple and Spotify, to hear our take on the situation and its impact on human rights.
The dire implications the decision has on abortion access in US has prompted local groups @nzprochoice to organise several marches around Aotearoa in solidarity, support, and to raise awareness of the fragility of access here. If you’re in Wellington, make a banner and head along to Civic Square at 4pm Friday July 1. Marches will be held in a couple of weeks in Auckland (Saturday July 16, Aotea Square) and Christchurch (Friday July 15, Cathedral Square).
Abortion in New Zealand is legal within the framework of the Abortion Legislation Act 2020, and if you need support and advice there are a range of services available including referring to a list of abortion providers in your area at Health.govt.nz, as well as exploring advice and options via decide.org.nz / 0800 DECIDE (0800 332 433). Your general practitioner (GP) and local Family Planning clinic is also a good starting point.
